Introduction and Overview of Project
The health promotion settings approach aims to improve the health of all people within a particular location, using an integrated, multi-faceted and holistic approach. The purpose of this critical evaluation is to examine the program ‘Choose Healthy Now!’1, and to critique the settings approach against the best practice guidelines2 and typology of health promotion activity in a setting3. The ‘Choose Healthy Now!’1 project uses an elemental setting of a worksite, and in particular, examines six vendors within state and federal government buildings, of small, medium and large operations, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii1. This project was built upon the recommended practice of worksite wellness interventions, and aimed to change the nutrition environment within the worksite to increase access to healthy food and beverage options,

Observing similar programs implemented in the worksite setting, incentive schemes including policies regarding the price of food and drinks sold in the workplace can be effective in embedding price controls to ensure healthy items remain lower than those unhealthy items9. It has also been shown that when employees agree that the employer values their health and wellbeing, they are more likely to partake in health behaviours or obesity-preventive behaviours10. Employers engaged in the ‘Choose Healthy Now!’ project could assure employees of their workplace having a commitment to health and wellbeing by ??? . Routine activities such as company meetings or staff events can also be used to show the employers commitment to health by only supplying healthy food and beverage options5.
