If I do any work with this patient I would first apply the principle of health promotion and prevention, to prevent or reduce the impact of mental illness. Normally, I would work with the person, families and carers in recovery focused ways, which means apply the principles of self-determination and support the person and their family members and carers in being decision-makers in their recovery processes and give advises to the person and their family or carer of their right to informed consent for treatment and their right to refuse treatment.
