It is with great joy that I submit my application for the Aged Care Project Officer vacancy at the Victorian Healthcare Association. For the past year I worked as a Data Manager at the Victorian Cancer Registry, central to Cancer Council Victoria which is a leading not-for-profit body in the fight against cancer.

I believe the skills and knowledge I have gained through my tertiary studies in Health Information Management and work experience as a Data Manager could be leveraged in this opportunity:

Creating solutions and deriving proposals: I love to innovate and provide solutions with sound reasoning backed by evidence. I accomplished this in my previous role by analysing current work manuals and how it applied to current best practice.

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

My pursuit of a medical degree is greatly strengthened by the Columbia University Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP). Prior to matriculation from the program my source of motivation held no true direction, I wanted to simply “help people”. During SPHSP I was exposed to federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to new medium to help people. I admired the measures that FQHC put in place to effectively serve a population of people that, under normal circumstances, would not be able pursue healthcare. FQHCs aligned closely to the sense of equity that I began to develop as I was exposed to communities suffering from health disparities over the course of the internship.…
