Health inequalities differ in countries, populations, gender, age. For example, the first article measured health inequalities in the U.S. and then in the Appalachian region. The results proved to be very difficult, with environment, culture, age, and substance abuse being determinants in chronic health conditions, especially rates of cancer (Appalachian Regional Commission, 2008).
