Health Fair Report

The health fair and the entire group project was a fun and interesting experience. I have never worked on a project as big as this one in high school or middle school, so it was a whole new experience for me. I learned how to communicate better with people and how to support my teammates when working in a group. I also learned about the wonders of teamwork and how it made the whole experience fun and not stressful at all. We were able to get things done quickly and efficient which I thought was great. Another thing that I learned during this group project was my topic, which was Parkinson’s Disease. I never heard much about Parkinson’s and didn’t research it at all before this project. However, when I did research it during this project, it …show more content…
I did not feel comfortable when making the presentation because the room seem so tense and I was nervous. To relieve my anxiety and nervousness about public speaking, I took in deep breaths and calmed myself down. I then tried to have fun when I was presenting to ease the tension in the room, but it seemed like it did not work. Overall, I learned a lot from other people’s group project during the class and at the fair. In class, I learned that there are three types of down syndrome and there are two types of sport injuries which are ACL and MCL injuries, During the fair, I learned that sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease that changes cells into sickle shape which transports less oxygen to the body and that asthma is a chronic lung disease that makes the airways narrow which causes coughing and wheezing. One thing that I would want to do differently for my next group project would be to make the poster more creative and appealing if there is one. One thing that worked well during this group project that I would want to do for the next one would be organization. My group was very organized with the project because we assigned different parts to each member and we planned what to do in the next

My experience as the lead Spanish-English interpreter at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic provided me with the opportunity of being practicing my leadership skills in team working toward a common objective. Here, I was able to multitask from interpreting to a medical student or physician and a patient, to jumping to assist another patient and medical student with interpretation. I was also in charge of checking-in patients, organizing the tasks of the other volunteer interpreters, helping the pharmacy staff and and the patient-assistance volunteers with interpretations when needed, as well as to checking the patient assistance hotline, and calling patients when needed. Because the position of each member of the clinic required many tasks and…

Health sectors in every nation are critical and even take a greater portion of their collected revenue. Within this important area, different departments work together to ensure that the entire nation is healthy. This paper, apart differentiating between public health and community health, shall look at the merit and demerits of conducting a public health assessment. It shall also examine the role played by such an evaluation in the formulation of health policies and legislations. For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

The WHO Right to Health Fact Sheet describes my exact image of what the United States Healthcare system should represent. My perception of the current healthcare system in the United States is that the citizens have been under the impression that we have one of the best health care systems in the world. We have also been told that more effective treatments, modern technology and newer model equipment, equals to a more efficient healthcare system. Lastly, we are provided information almost weekly, regarding the newest programs that have been developed for the future and current medical care providers and administrators will be extensively taught and trained on. However, with all of the training, modern technology, and the claims, the fact still…

There has been an increased interest in the wellbeing and health of individuals with disabilities. From a public health perspective, the estimated annual direct cost in 2004, of treating back pain alone, was $193.9 billion (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (July 2015, Vol. 9 #7). During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

During the summer of my sophomore year in transition to my junior year, I earned the opportunity to take part in USC Keck Hospitals’ summer program. I was granted the opportunity to shadow and interact with health professionals. At the same time, I was trained to learn the nursing basics such as taking vital signs and understanding medical terminology. With this knowledge, for the past two years I have been able, and will continue, to volunteer in the American Diabetes Association (ADA) health fair in my underserved community of Los Angeles. In the ADA health fair I wear my uniform which consists of a burgundy smock, a crisp white collared shirt, spiffy black slacks, and my comfortable nursing shoes.…

The paper is about exploring the human health experience of the guest speaker who presented in the second week of class on Concepts and Narratives. The health experience of the speaker is shared to nursing students in order to understand the concerns that have shaped the speaker’s life and how students can learn from the situation. A discussion about the speaker’s determinants of health and factors that have shape their overall experience, a description of abstract concepts that stood out in the individual’s narrative, a reflection on assumption as to how they relate to the selected concepts through comparison and contrast, and the integration of nursing literature and theory that provide meaning and new insights for students are considered. The health goal that I decided to accomplish was to run a mile in 8 minutes or less by December 1st. This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed. It was a weak point that I want to address because when sprinting, I could not maintain my speed for long periods of time or distances. In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it. I made two action plans to alternate between for each week from research on what was an effective workout to increase my cardiovascular endurance.…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…
