Health disparities is a profound difference in healthcare opportunities and services available to the general public. It can be based on certain factors such as, race, social class, economics, and or environmental disadvantages, (Kotch, 2010). Health disparities usually affect people that have experienced obstacles in life because of those certain factors mentioned earlier, and those who have always been discriminated against. Whether it was because of color, gender, sexual preference, or geographic disadvantages, they stepped outside of the norm accepted by society and have to suffer inequalities in health care.

If these individuals were more educated on what they do have access to, it’d decrease the amount expeditiously. The major cause of health disparities, in my opinion, is inequality. The unfairness still among many races and or ethnicities has to be eliminated before we can think about enhancing the health care. So the country needs to start with an even playing field for all citizen, no matter the race, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, education level, or geographic location. Early and continuous exposure can play a major role in a child decision as an adult (Kotch, 2013). The physical and social conditions in which they grow up can cause heath disparities from generations to generations. What mother does while she is pregnant can determine the outcome for her and the baby. The environment in which a child in born can be harmful causing chronic diseases such as diabetes. All of these factors influence the thoughts, decisions, and health of infants, children, and adolescents.

The reasons for disparities in access to health care is due to the trial and error prevention and promotion of women, child, and infant health. Many immigrant women in the United States still lack the proper prenatal care due to ineligibility for Medicaid (Kotch, 2013). It is known that African American and Hispanic are more likely to be poor meaning they do not have proper resources to remain health. One of these disparities would be access to health insurance that does not limit the benefits and providers. African American women are still at a high risk for preterm birth rates due to stress and improper services.
