Internal strengths include: 1) the facility provides preventative care. 2) The facility provides excellent care to patients evident in patient satisfaction surveys. 3) The facility has “happy staff” by providing the best medical benefits and pay. 4) Facility is known as a “one-shop-stop” a patient can get all their needs met in one building (lab work, pharmacy, and doctor appointments). 5) Nursing staff is eager to try new opportunities and progress in their learning. The internal weaknesses identified were: 1) Nursing staff and doctor communication methods; often surgeons expect staff to know what they want without specifically informing the staff. 2) Surgeons not held responsible for incomplete or missing orders. 3) Education level of current nurse leaders (both charge nurses hold associate degrees). External opportunities include: 1) Collaboration with supportive care facilities, i.e. physical therapy, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes. 2) Provide more awareness to the staff of the current Ben Hudnall education programs offered to help financially aid staff in furthering their education. 3) Make active steps forwards in pursuing magnet status. External threats include: 1) With the increase in new hospitals being built, the competition also increases. …show more content…
For organizations to succeed, they need to know how to adapt and be prepared. Using AI and SWOT analysis are different methods for strategic planning to assist in planning for change. Although both methods are useful, depending on the organization’s situation, one method may be preferred over the other (Bressie, Olson, Dolezalek, Hagen & Hall, n.d.). SWOT analysis focuses on threats and weaknesses then countering them with opportunities and strengths for the organization, AI works on discovering what is already working in the organization and building upon its strengths.
