Health Care Reform Paper

Healthcare policy reform is a hot topic in the current healthcare world. Healthcare appears to be moving in two directions. In conventional medicine, we search technology and chemistry for all the answers for the symptom, condition, disease, or way to manage pain. Alternative medicine gears toward working with life and the human body. The goal is not to interfere or manipulate, but to embrace the miracle of life and the human body’s support functions. This is referred to as a vitalistic approach. Provided it is coupled with the right circumstances, it could create an awareness that will affect healthcare in a positive way. I believe that healthcare reform should focus on integrating a philosophy centered around vitalistic wellness.

Refocusing and reforming your own personal health is the first step. Lifestyle management needs to be the focus. Leading unhealthy lifestyles causes one third of all deaths in the US today. Lifestyle is a choice and the patient has control over that aspect of their healthcare. Promoting behavior change through patient centered care allows for lifestyle management. The focus needs to be on the entire person, wellness oriented, and patients will become more knowledgeable and active in their care. There are three aspects of healthcare that need to be the focus of a lifestyle change; chiropractic care, active care, and behavioral change. We maximize the potential of the neuromusculosketetal system through these aspects. If one of these are weak the body can become compromised, causing sickness or disease. Articulating these aspects to the governing body can increase quality of care, decrease healthcare costs, and help patients preserve their health. Chiropractors are uniquely qualified to provide these health benefits. Chiropractors offer this vitalistic approach, and realize that mental and physical stresses can interfere with the innate intelligence of the human
