Health Care Observation Report

Decent Essays
Since it was my first exposure to US health care system so I was excited from the very start. I rotated here in departments of Internal Medicine and Cardiology for four weeks. Most interesting part of this rotation was to observe various procedures in cath lab on almost daily basis. Maintenance of blood flow by placement of a stent in a stenosed vessel and practically observing the placement of pacemaker in heart blocks really fascinated me. I liked presenting cases in morning rounds and learned a lot from noticing the gradual improvement in patients during their stay in the hospital. I saw a lot of interesting cases of autoimmune diseases here like SLE, graves disease, Addison disease and celiac disease. It took me some time in learning how

For care staff, during the day on each shift I arrange an assistant manager and two care assistants. I instruct the assistant manager to make a report on each resident, the report is written down in the daily report book. When changing shifts the report book is discussed with the assistant manager who is coming on shift. I give more responsibility to the senior staff, for instance, they give out the medication and are responsible for residents requiring a lot of care. I also allocate the senior staff the supervision of the junior staff to ensure they carry out procedures correctly and thoroughly, this also helps the junior staff be more familiar with the work and gain experience.…

Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…

DS had been a manager for AAS a staffing agency that was very large and assisted in staffing in the Houston Texas area as well as providing staff to different areas of the country in times of disasters, making sure the staff had the correct credentials and training to do this.
