These could include things like confidence, compassion, courage, commitment and competence. Another one is skills/knowledge which is the ability to do something well and facts, information and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. These could include things like listening skills, communication skills, and high fitness levels and to be able to work as part of a team. The last one is ethics which is moral principles that govern a person’s behaviour or the conducting of an activity. A paramedic has the following; lots of confidence in own decisions, good health and high fitness levels, is able to work under pressure, they also use the 3 P’s which are to prevent further injury, promote the condition from worsening and to preserve life. They also have to have a good stomach, the capacity to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly in stressful situations, they have to be self reliant, they have to have the 6 C’s which are care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. They have to be able to work as part of a team, they have to have good communication skills and have to be a good driver. In comparison a nurse has to be able to deal with emotional situations, be a good listener and follow instructions and to be able to observe any changes in patients. They also have to have excellent people skills, the ability to answer questions and offer advice, they need to be competent, and they also need to have the 6 C’s and also to work part of a team.
