Health Care Interview
For my health care interview assignment I chose to interview Mayra Cruz, Certified Nurses Assistant. She works at Cuidado Casero Home Health and Hospice at 1617 E. Missouri Ave, El Paso, Texas. In my interview with her she described her job duties, her patients and how she interacts with others in her environment. In addition, she identified the length of time she has been in her current position, her career path that has led her to this position as well as her experience in the health care industry. She also provides medication for reducing pain and educating the patient’s family members about the medications. Mayra also provides emotional support to the patients and their family members.
Mayra has been a CAN for 3 years now. Mayra has a child with autism and who is epileptic as well. Her caring for and attending for her child led her to have a passion for nursing. She decided to take her time in getting her degree as she still has to be a single parent to her special needs child. Upon getting her 72 hours of CNA training for her certification the program she attended placed her with this CNA job at Cuidado Casero home health and hospice.
When asked if her education adequately prepared her for the various facets of her job, she stated that in some areas it did, while in other areas one would have to have the heart and a natural love for this job to be able to handle certain situations. She wondered if the education prepared her with the mindset to be in her position. She finishes with stating the rest of the education one can learn on the job. The instruction used in the CNA program is generally basic nursing skills, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and infection control. Mayra says that one must advance in one’s education, don’t stop at CNA keep going. She goes on to say that ever since she has been at this position she has wanted to keep
