The healthcare system in the United States and Britain are different and many in ways. The purpose of the healthcare system should be to satisfy the needs and preferences of the individual patient who are ill but many countries have a different approach. There are 40 million Americans who lack healthcare coverage in the U.S due to high premiums and expensive health insurance plans. (Holtz, 2010) This is an alarming number and I have always wonder how different things would be if healthcare was free in the United States. Due to the universal healthcare in Great Britain many medical professionals appear to forget they are in being paid by the people they serve and the level of service is low compared to the quality of care found in the USA for those who can afford the insurance premiums, so there are huge advantages and disadvantages to both systems.
Even though I would prefer every American to receive free and fair healthcare, I will also want all the citizens of the U.S to receive quality care. If I could implement any part of Great Britain’s Healthcare system into the U.S healthcare system I would incorporate a new plan allows all children and senior citizens not to pay any fees for prescriptions and medications. This would be my choice because the elderly and children are the ones who have the most visits to the doctors and who are charged the most for their medications and prescriptions. Since I am unable to make any changes I would rather keep the one we have for now because I have learned that every system has a disadvantage and many complaints.
