Steven is a banker while Elizabeth has left her job to focus on being a mother. Prior to the birth of their babies, life was not difficult. They were healthy and felt that health insurance was not something they had to focus on. Like many Americans they had the assumption that health insurance was a necessity, but using it was not something they hoped would happen in the near future. As such, this was not the case. Elizabeth got pregnant and a sonogram proved that they would be having twins. Having twins is an expensive affair as the bills double. The problems began when she went into premature labor. Having premature babies increases the risk of them developing various health complications. The babies spent four months in the hospital where they were under close medical observation. The French health system is very different from the one in the United States in so many ways. The health covers are different because the system is set in a manner that ensures patients have all their bills covered. Unlike the United States, the health care covers everything and no insurance company can refuse to pay bills on grounds of its coverage (Reid 2010: 50). A key feature in the French health system is the priority of health care insurance when it comes to coverage. Their priority lies in treating the patients and not offering returns to the insurance companies. The efficiency levels in the French health system are outstanding. As such, the systems do not spend a lot of time reviewing or denying claims making them effective and quick on settling bills. Another key feature that would have saved the couple a lot of stress is in the organization of the system. The French citizens have specific coverage assigned to them depending on their job description or their geographical location. Incase one loses their job or quit working the cover remains and the government pays for part of the insurance cover. Therefore, the case of Steve wanting to quit his present job at the back and go for the one with better pay would not have affected the couple’s insurance
