The people of Blakely are tremendously generous and selfless, which is why I have devoted the last ten years of my practice to helping them. While the grants and donations are not making me rich, they are enough to keep the clinic open and for me to make a small profit. I have found that when you devote your resources to helping others, you will be helped in return. For example, the CEO of the nearby plantation Flexcorp, has provided a rent-free clinic for us to practice in. I urge you to come and work in my clinic; with the already reduced cost of rent you would be able to offer your services at a lower cost.
Dr. Reed I understand that you may want to maintain your own clinic and you may not be able to afford to serve only indigent patients; however you may able to accept some reduction in your income. In this case you can establish a sustainable balance of both types of clientele. For example, you may reserve one day a week for booking patients who are uninsured or have Medicaid.
Alternatively, you may also choose to work one day a week at my clinic since we already serve those who may not be able to afford health care. Essentially, this way you are volunteering your own time, but not the time of your staff. This may even help my clinic at improving the efficiency.
