Health Care Administration Personal Statement

The profession I am choosing to pursue is Health Care Administration, also can be known as Medical/Health Service Managers or Healthcare Executive. In this profession I can look forward to planning, directing, and coordinating medical and health services in hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, public health agencies, and/or similar organizations. I’ll need multiple skills such as:
• Speaking/talking to others to convey information effectively.
• Critical thinking in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Active listening and giving your full attention to what other people are saying, taking the time to understand the points being

The top 3 interests were Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. I don’t agree with the social trait. It said, “People with Social interests like working with others to help them learn and grow. They like working with people more than working with objects, machines, or information.” I prefer to be left alone, working with objects, machines, or information. The Enterprising trait said, “People with Enterprising interests like work that has to do with starting up and carrying out business projects. These people like taking action rather that thinking about things.” I can agree with this result. The Conventional trait said, “People with Conventional interests like work that follows set procedures and routines. They prefer working with information and paying attention to details rather than working with ideas.” This result is totally me and I can agree with this result. Filing, sorting, organizing, or detailing is what I love and do best.
One important trait that I need to work on is time management. I’m late to almost everything and wait till the last moment to finish things. Not always but it does happen more often than not. My relationship with time is difficult to explain, it’s honestly a selfish act on my part. I have gotten better over time and the older I get the more important it seems to

My pursuit of a medical degree is greatly strengthened by the Columbia University Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP). Prior to matriculation from the program my source of motivation held no true direction, I wanted to simply “help people”. During SPHSP I was exposed to federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to new medium to help people. I admired the measures that FQHC put in place to effectively serve a population of people that, under normal circumstances, would not be able pursue healthcare. FQHCs aligned closely to the sense of equity that I began to develop as I was exposed to communities suffering from health disparities over the course of the internship.…

How does your resilience affect your ability to think and act ethically? Resilience is probably one of the most profound overt actions that enhance or hinder critical thinking. When an individual lacks the ability to reason through the elements of critical thinking, then their bounce back ability will also lack when dealing with stressful situations. When cognitive functioning is misfiring, and one simply starts to reason in absolutes versus finding an array of alternatives, then it can be clear that a lack of resilience is starting to set in. Critical thinking is really the most well rounded way to identify what it truly happening in a situation, or understanding concepts.…
