In the early 1900’s many consumers did not have access to such products because of laws of prohibition. The number of people that consume alcohol has increased drastically to 136.8 million people. Since the 1970’s marijuana consumption has grown up to 18.9 million people just in the United States. Marijuana consumption has also increased because of new modified laws that have legalized the product for medicinal use. Let’s go back in time and take a look at how alcohol was introduced to the American society. According to the foundation of a drug free world, fermented grain, fruit juice, and honey have been used to make alcohol for thousands of years. In the sixteenth century alcohol was majorly used for medical purposes. In Britain during the eighteenth century, parliament passed a law that encouraged the use of distilling alcohol. By the end of the century it became a widespread across the world.
Marijuana was introduced in the 1500’s. The British colonies introduced it in Jamestown in 1611 and it became a major crop along with tobacco. Marijuana was once illegal in the United States. Marijuana was banned because the society believed that the use of cannabis led to dangerous behaviors. Many others did not even know that they were using for medical purposes in their households.
