The first known way that horses were trained was between 4000 and 3000 BC. These horses were to pull wagons with worries in them to battle; accept these horses did not fight they were only there to get the worriers to and from battle. Further on in history horses were being trained in an extremely cruel way. One of the tactics they used was to make the horses deaf. In the process of doing this they would scream in there ears or make small explosives go off near by just close enough to the point that they wouldn't be hurt or killed, even though this was not the case for all of the horses.…
SHOULD THE FUNDING FOR U.S. FEDERAL INSPECTIONS ON HORSES FOR SLAUGHTER BE REESTABLISED? INTRODUCTION There are 9.2 million horses being used for sports, shows, and recreation in the United States (American Horse Council). While horses have always been seen as tool to complete ranch or farm work and a type of transportation, the more personal use of horses in recent years is their role as a companion animal. However, not everyone can afford these expensive pets and thousands are left unwanted each year.…

My occupational goals that could pertain to agriculture with becoming a nurse practitioner and equine assisted therapist is to be able to work in an agriculturally based community. Growing up in Greensburg has shown me that a rural work is worth more because you get to know the people you are working with. Nursing does not pertain to agriculture as much as I wish, but being able to work in a community where all are kind is a goal of mine. Working with the agriculture workers would only strengthen me as a nurse practitioner and as a person alone. Working in the equine assisted therapy program will not only help me reconnect with the agricultural side, but equine assisted therapy will help me combine my love of horses and my love of helping…
Special needs children often must search for ways to cope with their disabilities. Doctors and many of their legal guardians understand this, yet they also believe that horseback riding can be a very effective and beneficial way for children with special needs to improve upon their physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional skills. Therapeutic horseback riding usually consists of a very well trained instructor whom has both experience with both equines and children with disabilities, one or two handlers keeping the rider in place, and one person holding onto the horse. As riders progress, they may start to have less people with the horse, and more people watching from the side just in case.…
167,227 spectators attended the 2017 Kentucky Derby. 16.2 million more people watched the derby in the comfort of their own home. More than 16.4 million people in total witnessed 20 abused, drugged, and injured horses run 1.4 miles for ¨entertainment purposes¨. Weighing over 1,000 pounds, horses are supported by fragile ankles, and covered in skin three times more sensitive than humans. Despite these factors, horses are still forced to lap around hard-packed dirt tracks at speeds of the average city while in critical condition.…
Then he met Rosie, immediately drawn to this horse, his mood increased, he almost instantly was described as “confident, happy and in charge”. This effective and beneficial relationship, helped Sam balance in Micro and Meso levels in society. This was shown through his newly found confidence, by standing up to bullies in his Meso environment by eventually speaking up about his issues, which allowed him to form closer bond between his parents in his micro world. It was found that 83% of patients who undergo Animal Assisted Therapy show improvements. I thought it was only reasonable to carry out a personal investigation on this study, by participating in an observation of Animal Assisted Therapy, with 6 week old Corgi, Tobar and 11 year old Corgi, Buzz.…

“Ten, eleven, twelve!” , I counted as the pocket-sized piglets bounded into my hands. I felt a rush of excitement and a sense of accomplishment as the sow delivered her last piglet. Influential experiences as such have nourished my enduring passion for veterinary medicine. From my personal experience, I have witnessed the profound therapeutic effect that animals provide.…
I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…
“Equine therapy is the discipline of using horses as a means to provide metaphoric experiences in order to promote emotional growth” (“What is Equine Therapy?”). While other therapies can be used to cure someone with a mental problem or a disability equine therapy is proven to be more effective. Also, why not benefit from physical, mental and emotional benefits while taking therapy. People with almost any kind of disorder can take equine therapy and benefit enormously. Equine therapy “…has shown to be very effective with patients who manifest depression, attention deficit, conduct disorders, dissociative disorders, anxiety, dementia, autism, and many other related disorders” (“What is Equine Therapy?”).…
