For care staff, during the day on each shift I arrange an assistant manager and two care assistants. I instruct the assistant manager to make a report on each resident, the report is written down in the daily report book. When changing shifts the report book is discussed with the assistant manager who is coming on shift.
I give more responsibility to the senior staff, for instance, they give out the medication and are responsible for residents requiring a lot of care. I also allocate the senior staff the supervision of the junior staff to ensure they carry out procedures correctly and thoroughly, this also helps the junior staff be more familiar with the work and gain experience.

I would also tell them not to have any quick movements of the head that may precipitate dizziness. Furthermore, I would demonstrate to them how to properly sit at the side of the bed prior to getting up.…

The care partners’ experiences with collaboration with home care services span a continuum. However, their descriptions of collaboration routines indicate that few or no systematic procedures exist. They receive little information, are rarely included in decision-making processes and seem to lack basic knowledge about legal rights. The care partners expressed the need for information, time for own activities and to remain in their original role, that is, not being forced into a care role. The care partners carry a great responsibility but make no demands until absolutely necessary.…

Very interesting post regarding your team’s efforts to implement bed-side shift reporting. My organization has been trying to implement bed-side shift report and has experienced the same resistance from the nursing staff. Since my bedside experience is ICU, we already do bedside shift report. There was a time that we taped report, and the team gathered around the table to hear about all the patients on the unit. Even though getting a face-to-face report better, since it allows you to ask questions, I liked knowing what was going on with the rest of the patients on the unit.…

For instance, a staff member asked him to stop, the child looked at the staff member, waited for her to get closer.…

The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined health care as, “all the activities whose primary purpose is to promote, restore or maintain health” (Kruk & Freedman, 2008 p. 263). Under this definition includes childhood immunization, drugs for infectious disease, education relating to sanitation and proper dietary needs, and life sustaining medical treatment. Yet, in TWN almost 10 million children under 5 years of age die yearly from manageable diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia (10 Million Children, 2008). Currently existing, low cost medications could save millions of these children. A course of antibiotics to treat pneumonia costs less than thirty cents, but is not available in poor countries (10 Million Children).…
