1. What are some common causes of injury on the job for teenagers? Common injuries teenagers sustain while on the job include sprains, lacerations, fractures, and contusions.
2. What are your rights as far as health and safety are concerned? I have a right to refuse unsafe work. I have the right to participate in the safety activities or workplace health with the Health and Safety Committee or with a representative. Lastly, I have the right be informed about potential and actual dangers in my workplace.

I am responsible for using my protective equipment/clothing as directed by my boss, as well as working in a safe manner. I am also responsible for reporting workplace hazards/ dangers to my supervisor/ employer, such as missing/defective equipment.
4. Why is it important to inform your co-op teacher immediately about any injury – even a minor one?
It is important to inform my teacher because they will need to make a note of it. Although the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board does not have to be involved if it is a small injury (first aid), the details still have to be recorded and filed by the school board. Also, minor injuries may lead to major ones in the future if not investigated, so reporting it could possibly stop a future incident. In the event of a critical injury, the teacher will report to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, as the claim is under the Ministry of Education’s coverage.
