Has Kim Kardashian gained too much weight? Is Meghan Trainor’s song, “All About That Bass,” a new forefront in body positivity? Are people unhealthily wrapped up in health? Many people wouldn’t think so, but lately eating habits, excessive exercise, and even yoga, have been popularized into big fads, and not actual solutions. Society focuses on how your body looks and judges you based on it; nobody thinks to ask about the state of your mental health. Over twenty percent of people worldwide have mental illnesses, and many don’t even know it. People think of mental illnesses as being depressed or being insane, no in between, but they are much more than that. Mental health, if unchecked, can lead to bodily harm, social outbursts, or even death. Although many believe physical health should be your number one priority, your physical health will suffer greatly if your mental health goes unchecked.
A point many make to encourage body health is the ‘look good, feel good’ attitude that people expect to work; the attitude that if your body is healthy, your life will be perfect. Sadly, people with developed mental disorders have trouble taking care of their

Yet, mental health is still equally important to physical health. If mental disorders compile, they can grow to the point where you do not care about yourself and you may begin to indulge in unhealthy habits. Mental illnesses can make life feel like hell; you could have OCD pushing that everything needs to be perfect, but depression preventing you from doing anything. A situation like this can lead to people self-harming, or worse. If untreated, mental illnesses could have a permanent effect on someone’s life. People need to get medicine and treatments to lessen the effect of these, or at a minimum be instructed on how to live with a mental
