Health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing. The studies shown that the concept of health and health education/promotion has been around for many years. Its origin came from ancient civilization, and particularly in Greek antiquity. Back in the day, people do not have the real knowledge about diseases. They believed that sickness is the punishment of spirits that live in trees, air, earth, and animals. Animals sacrifice to gods were considered as method of treatment. The prevention of diseases was based on plants, and herbs. But they did not know which herb or plant can provide medicinal benefits until they tried it. In another words, if someone ate an herb and become sick, that person will alert other people to avoid that herb (Cottrell, Girvan, McKenzie, & Denis, 2015).
For the past two century, health education/promotion has experienced an improvement. Nowadays, people are living longer than before. This is due to the fact that there have been a major transition in the health of the population. For example, in 19th century, John Snow discovered the cause of diseases. He strongly believed that cholera epidemic from a particular location in London was caused by microorganisms living in water that people were drinking (Cottrell et al., 2015).
