There are different aspects of life that affect an individual’s perception of health such as lifestyle choices, living conditions, socioeconomic status, or social support networks. It important to define the terms health and episodic health challenge to have a better understanding of the content of this paper. What does the word health mean? According to Reutter & Eastlick Kusher (2014), the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (p. 2). On the other hand, my definition of an episodic health challenge is the continues intermittence of the illness, which interrupts the process of making an individual back to their original healthy state. Health care providers should not regard patients as exclusive receivers of information; patients are human beings who are actively striving to find ways to cognitively elaborate on their situation to find hope when a challenging situation occurs. This concept involves the acceptance of changes in appearance, physical endurance, reassessments of goals, and contentment with aging (Folse, 2014, p. 398). Mr. X think that people go through a lot of changes with aging. However, there are things that an individual can do when undergoing a transition. Based on the information above, there are positive and negative effects that influence the transition of Mr. X in regards to his episodic health challenge. Although there have been some changes in Mr. X’s family roles, they did not encounter any conflicts within the family. Mr. X’s family is his source of energy.
