In the article “Against Headphones” by Virginia Heffernan, Heffernan gives the science, history, and other background information to further prove her point. I think she does this so we can see the progression of the use of headphones. From what she said, headphones were originally used for work and WWII veterans that came home; now they’re used to cancel outside noises by younger generations through playing music at high volumes. This shows how headphones were meant for good, but are now causing hearing loss. I think it’s good she included this because it persuaded me, and probably many others, to deeply consider what headphones are doing to us and what could potentially happen if we don’t…

Recent studies published in The Journal of the American Medical Association are showing that teenagers are experiencing hearing loss due to listening to loud music for extended periods of time. The journal states that since the iPod was first released, the way people listen to music has changed drastically. Virginia Heffernan then continues through her own article, “Against Headphones”, providing her readers with a history lesson on how, why, and what headphone were made for. She then goes on to discuss how headphones are taking away conversations and adding silence. Through rhetorical appeals, examples, and resources she gives, Heffernan attempts to positively let her readers know why they should also be against headphones, for the sake of the children.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

I tend to hear throughout the school day several kids my class complaining about how their favorite movie or game website has been restricted, and that the school is so unfair when it comes to web filters. I think that web filters on chromebooks are not too restrictive because, the students seem to use the chromebooks for the right reason with the filters that are being used currently. By, using filters students have been less distracted in class and attentive to what the teacher is explaining. If kids are watching movies in class with headphones in, they are not able to focus on their education. Another, reason would be many times students tend to procrastinate when it comes to their work, by using chromebooks.…

The student’s conformity to these expectations only feeds further categorization of the students as a group outside of mainline French culture. Within the walls the students are monolithically believed to be incapable of reading ‘real’ French texts, like Voltaire. Outside of the walls — outside the systemic dictates— one student is capable of reading and digesting Plato’s Republic.…

I think the teachers are right at that point because it’s hard to take control of a classroom when almost all the students are just being noisy and getting up of their desk. The teacher should give tell those students they are getting bad grades for being annoying or take them out the class. At this point I don’t see it like the teacher is wrong, the students are. I heard some teachers hit the students or sometimes just because a student its being noisy the whole classroom have to pay for it too and it shouldn’t be like that.…

There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon). It also seems that homework is being forced onto younger students more often than the older ones. I remember getting tons of homework in Elementary school, and not having the time to play outside, the stress, and my parents struggling to help me on problems I didn’t know.…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another.
