SIU Head Start The Southern Illinois Head Start program is funded through a federal grant which serves income eligible children from three to five years of age. My main goal for choosing SIU Head Start for my practicum was to get experience with small children in a classroom setting. It found that the need for foster care placements was cut by more than half, that children did not move as frequently from one school to another, and that the number of child abuse reports decreased (2015). Additionally, Moving to Opportunity Experiment found that children of families with vouchers were 32 percent more likely to attend college and earn 31 percent more as young adults than low-income children without the voucher or other supportive assistance (CBPP, 2011). Clearly, a safe and decent home leads to a better life for children in low income families and also improves children’s future…

It says, “The rising costs of child rearing, the more difficult kids in foster care, low reimbursement rates, and inadequate support for foster parents,” (Spiegel, 1998). This demonstrates how clearly kids are very expensive. Kids have a lot of needs, but with the amount of money foster systems, or foster homes receive, the needs of the kid(s) are not always completely met.…
Philosophy Statement I have chosen to work in this field because I believe that early school years are the most significant in a child’s life as they lay the foundation for future education. True education is one that brings out the person’s potential. Education should encompass the whole child—intellectual, social, emotional and physical aspects of his/her being. Being a preschool teacher involves a true love for the career and working with children. "…

I was born and raised here in America, in an Italian household the only spoke English. Growing up I lived on the east end of long Island, in a community that was all middle class and Caucasian. Still to this day I live in a working middle class town on long Island which is mostly all white Americas. Because my community wasn’t as diverse as I grew up, I wasn’t as familiar with different cultures, ethnicity, and life styles outside of my own. When I first walk into the head start program, I wasn’t sure what to except.…
Early years of childhood have widely been recognised as the most important years of learning and development. “Research have shown the importance of these years to learn and acquire new skills” (DEECD, 2010), which have assigned a great responsibility to the educators working with the young children. As an early childhood educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide the high quality learning environment for the young children to learn, acquire and develop social, emotional, academic and technological skills. The following paper contains my philosophy statement, which includes my values and professional knowledge in relation to children, teaching and learning in early childhood education. Connor defines philosophy as “it can be used…
