Head Start Parent Handbook Analysis

Decent Essays
After reading through the Head Start Parent Handbook I conclude that in all it was a very informational handbook. I would be pleased to drop my child in the care of Head Start. From reading the beginning to the end I saw a lot of information where it looks as if they took their time to put information that they thought was important. For example, all the examples of the meals they will serve daily to the parent involvement. Not only will my child be taken care of, but I am able to come help at any time I would like. A few sections I would like to point out her stated below. I would like to first touch on the rights and responsibilities. I want to say that oddly it was a small section for being such an important of any childcare center. Then

Staff members will gain a relationship with parents/carers as their child will be registering with that nursery. The practitioners will need to gather information from each child’s parents/carers to be able to find out important information such as health, allergies, disabilities, likes and dislikes. The parents/carers will also be able to find out how their child has been getting on in the setting and if they are either doing well or having difficulties in a specific area, and find out what support they can get for either them or their child. It’s very important that all the children have a strong relationship as they would be seeing a lot of each other, and together they can gain lots of skills by learning from one another. 3.3: Explain reasons for working in partnership with others.…

The Head Start program is a Federal program that was established in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson; this program was designed to assist families and children who were living below the poverty line. “It was designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs and support families in improving their lives.” (Head Start, 2015) For many years Head Start was a program to help prepare children for school, and under the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007 now the local grantees are “required to develop school readiness goals and evaluate children’s progress toward these goals.”…

The first observation I did was at the Esmelda daycare, this daycare is a family daycare there the woman and husband showed me what they did every day they said that the toddler had hours for everything like what time they eat, how much time they had to play. Esmelda daycare promote language through play time she has book that help the toddlers learn the different animal or the ABC the woman would read the book to toddler by pointing to animal or letter and saying what it was she would also promote language by playing with the toys like counting how many Lego blocks there is or by saying the color of the toy right now. Esmelda daycare is not fully completed with all the material the toddlers need they are in process, but still not being a fully completed daycare you can see that the women and the husband take really good care of children when I was there as she was taking to me if the children need something she would stop and put attention to what the children need instead of just keep taking to me and ignored the child. Compare to the second observation did where each children age group has his own in Esmelda daycare see has all the children together he also has the toy room apart where they just go play when is play time and can’t go in until is play time again.…

Since the Head Start program helps a variety of families I would try to find are we meeting their needs? Because every family is different and their needs may not be the same as another family they might require different resources. I would not apply the same methods to every family because I would have to consider their cultural backgrounds. This also brings up the issue of working with clients from diverse cultural/ racial groups it states Neukrug (2017) “Have the right attitudes and beliefs, gain knowledge, and learn skills.…

The family service worker then follows them through the process, following up and assisting. In my personal experience, I have seen men and women come in and mark they need housing, education, transportation and job training. After giving the resources and assisting them, whether this meant driving them to the interview sitting with their child while they were interviewed or calling the housing department for them I’ve seen success. I’ve seen parents build up themselves with just a little bit of support and a helping hand be molded into citizens who are an attribute to their community and no longer needing social services. So as you can see the Head Start program may start with educating the child, but it is built to empower the entire family and break the cycle of poverty in our…

Economic stratification in the United States has greatly impacted the quality of education for students from low-income families. Previously, American schools had responded well to the ever-changing economic growth, as high and low-income families were awarded the same standards of education. However, the rising income inequality has been difficult for schools to keep up with, and as a result, many low-income students are being left behind. Programs like Head Start and Early Head Start, New York’s Middle Class Child Care Loan Initiative, and the Every Student Succeeds Act all aim to diminish or eliminate this gap. In this policy brief, we will examine each of these policy alternatives and explain why Head Start and Early Head Start are the…
