While both characters are avarice, Nora becomes less greedy as the plot progresses, whereas Hester’s craving for riches only intensifies; this is seen through the characters’ attitude toward money, abuse of it, and how their perspectives change with regards to wealth.…

This September I return to the saddle in support of the important mission and work of the Southern Tier AIDS Program. Please consider a donation toward this worthy cause. Last year, higher than normal temptures and a nasty head-wind on the back half conspired with under-training to knock me off the course at mile 72ish. Taking the lessons learned from last year, the 42 mile course is the goal this year, with the hope that I can push my post-40 body across the finish line and complete what went pear-shaped last year.…

Our arrival on the Gulf Coast was marked by the striking change over from open land and farm country to high-rise condo buildings and crowds of boats. The pleasant, little anchorage we found was flanked by greenery and a big luxurious hotel and filled with other boats. After our daily appointment with the sunset, we quickly threw the dinghy in and headed out for another visit with more of the people in Florida we wanted to visit. Our few days in Cape Coral were filled with visiting and chores; evenings of chatting and relaxing with family and days of laying in provisions and preparing for the leg of our journey that would take us across many many miles of wide open water in the Gulf of Mexico.…
