The essay gave much insight of what the word patriot means. It means to have honor and pride for your country. To stand for what your country stands for. It also means not only to show patriotism for yourself but help people grow their pride for their country. The essay had very striking points about the meaning. In the text is states “He was not making the flag because it made Mike Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was for us” (McCain 7). When McCain said that he was showing that they meant what they said when they said it, the pledge was important. They thought and put a meaning behind every word they said. The pledge meant great deal to them, not just words you recite mindlessly. This was their hope and joy of the day, this was there connection to each other. This defines that the word patriot, you believe in your country, you stand for what your country stands for. He uses this because he wants to show that the word patriot is not centered around only one person. He shows that he did not just do it for him but for everyone around him. He took great pride in his country and wanted everyone else to. He knew it meant a great deal to them. McCain says “We must never forget those thousands of Americans who, with their courage, with their sacrifice and with their lives, made those words live for us all, (7)” he is saying that we have to remember what other people did and not just what we did to show what the word patriot is. The word patriot has an in depth meaning that isn’t exactly the same for any one person. People may think of the word patriot meaning saying the Pledge of Allegiance to serving their country every day with honor and
