This poster is well-designed because it appeals to the audience and allows them to think in depth. The audience’s eyes are first drawn to the boy’s left eye because of the actual black eye coloured pigmentation and everything else is in black and white colour. Then the eyes are led towards the tagline because the capitalized, bolded, and bright font contrasts with the black background. Afterwards, this activates the brain to thoroughly relate the message back to the bruised eye. Since the eye is black, it blends in with the background and symbolizes that abuse can be unnoticed and easily overlooked. Equally important, the PSA uses a psychological appeal to target the audience’s need for security. The boy’s facial expression, colour choice and tagline are used to effectively express this. The boy’s sad expression creates sympathy and the need for security to prevent cases of abuse. It will cause the target audience to raise more awareness, contact abuse hotlines, and have discussions with family, friends, and coworkers.
