Standardized Coding Systems According to the American Nurses Association 2015, universal language among nurses is important because it delivers continuity of care, a means to measure clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Common language helps implement the measurement of the EHR and it sets a standard for nursing practice to measure patient outcomes that will be interpreted for use in evidence-based practice. If I go into a EHR of a patient who has just transferred to my facility, I should be able to read it and know exactly what action was taken in regards to care of the patient. The continuity of care will not be interrupted if we all use a standardized language. If nursing languages are not standardized across every nursing practice a barrier may exist when exchanging information with important health information being missed. NANDA diagnosis are a set of nursing diagnosis's used in writing care plans. Our care plans should contain an approved NANDA diagnosis and well as our SOAP notes. Working on a psychiatric unit we use Ineffective individual coping, and high risk for violence most of the time. Ineffective individual coping can have several meanings and can be used in across multiple specialties while others may not be used as much. NANDA is simple and easy to use and the diagnosis can cover multiple situations. Brokel (2010) stated, NANDA-I supports the clinical assessments of patients, families and communities to help make accurate decisions about their health care in health prevention and safety in the EHR.
