Esophagitis is frequently caused by the backflow of acid-containing fluid from the stomach to the esophagus (Esophagitis, 2010). This happens after one eats spicy foods, chocolate, tomatoes, oranges, and caffeinated drinks, and alcohol (Silva, 2010).
To control the affects of esophagitis one would need to change his or her diet. I believe that the most difficult part of carrying out what needs to be done to prevent this disease from occurring would be for one to have to sacrifice some of the foods or drinks that one likes a lot. Soft foods like applesauce, oatmeal soft cooked eggs and high protein shakes can help symptoms to improve (Silva, 2010).
