Mr. Trump meets HBCU presidents. Sounds odd, right? Trump’s meeting with HBCU presidents brought many mixed emotions to surface throughout the country. Some felt the presidents from our prestigious HBCUs should not have accepted the White House’s invitation to meet with Mr. Trump. Many questioned Mr. Trump’s motives and believed he intended to buy their loyalties. People from this camp view the entire episode as simply an opportunity for a cheap photo opportunity.
On the other hand however, some people believe the meeting to have been a great opportunity to bridge the gap between the Trump administration and elements within the African American community. People from this camp view the meeting as a way for HBCU presidents to voice their opinions and ensure their needs and voices are heard. Those within this group simply could not understand how everyone could bash Uber CEO Travis Kalanick for working with Mr. Trump, while simultaneously stand behind HBCU presidents when they decided to do the same exact thing. …show more content…
Some prominent voices within our community make the persuasive case that Mr. Trump does not even have the mental capability to successfully wrap his little mind around what it means to struggle or simply to empathize with people who struggle on a daily basis. Other people within our community view him as ignorant and immature, and do not believe his policies are created to be of any benefit to people like us. Because many of us do not stand behind his actions or statements, we therefore protest, lobby and boycott. But after all of this we must again ask ourselves, “what do we really
