Hazing Research Paper

Hazing is an activity that should not be tolerated or applauded. Fraternities and sororities still encourage this harmful and humiliating initiation. Organizations use hazing to break down their incoming members mentally, physically, and emotionally. Under no circumstance should hazing be conducted or performed. More action needs to be taken against organizations that authorize these rituals because no group should have the power to control their peers with humiliation and violence. All of the organizations that use hazing as an entry way into their group are commiting a crime. In 44 states hazing is prohibited. Although it is banned in many states and universities, hazing is still practiced widely and more people are becoming victims because they want so badly to be a part of something. Group leaders have the power to potentially end a persons life and cause them harm that could traumatize them for the rest of their lives. There are three types of hazing, violent hazing and harrasment are the two that are considered most extreme. While undergoing a violent initiation one could be whipped and beaten until they cannot stand and in some cases until they cannot respond coherently. Having to consume large amounts of alcohol, sexual activity, and branding parts of the body are also included in a violent haze. Harrasment causes incoming memebers to feel stress and discomfort.
