Hazing is a big issue all over the United States. It is seen most often in college fraternities.”Hazing is gaining national attention and is getting worse.” (Cohen, 1). There is a big difference between just having fun and hazing, people should be able to tell if what they are doing is wrong or not. Granted that some people probably don’t see that what they are doing is wrong but regardless the community or people around them should say or do something. If someone is questioning if what they are doing is wrong they could just ask themselves, “Would we get in trouble if an administrator or adult walked by?” …show more content…
“In this country, about 1.5 million high school students are hazed each year.” (Hazard, page 1). Many things can be considered hazing including sexual acts or types of violence. People getting hurt or raped can also be considered hazing and is a serious problem. Even more forms of hazing could include forced consumption of alcohol and physical brutality. If hazing is taken far enough people could die or be seriously injured.
It ends up being a vicious circle that doesn’t stop. Students who haze tend to be the people who don’t feel powerful or those who assume they have power and prestige and want to use both. So basically they are people who don’t know their place or put themselves above others. “These rites of passage play an important role in weeding out the weak and proving themselves.” (Hazard,1). Hazing has become a very serious issue lately “Frat parties are a big part of the problem” (Glovin, D5). An alleged gang rape at a Virginia Fraternity involves a growing debate over hazing,drinking, and sexual assault.
Hazing can have very serious consequences depending on how serious the case
