Early in the morning, and the District was already busy. Usually, around this time was when all the miners would be making their way to the mines for another day of work. But today, it was a different kind of activity that made the District seem both eerie and festive all at once. Sure, it wasn't a fun festive feeling, it was more of a depressing one-- you know, like the get togethers that people have after someone dies and they act like they are enjoying talking about memories and future plans? The heavy, overwhelming feeling that went along with that was just how this day felt every year.
School was canceled, work was canceled, businesses were closed for most of the day...all because of the reaping. The day that the Capitol looked forward to all year, and the day that most of the districts feared the most.
