Hayao Miyazaki Research Paper

Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941, in Akebono-Cho in Bunkyo, Tokyo. Miyazaki’s family included his three brothers, his mother, and his father. Miyazaki went to elementary school in Utsunomiya until the third grade. Miyazaki and his family then moved to Suginami-Ku where he completed fourth and fifth grade. Miyazaki went to Omiya Junior High and that’s when he realized that he wanted to become a manga artist. Miyazaki then went on to attend Toyotama High School where his interest in animation really peaked after he seen the movie Panda and the Magic Serpent. Miyazaki attended Gakushuin University where he furthered his interest in animation by joining a children’s literature club which was the “closest thing to a comics club in those days” according to Miyazaki. Miyazaki ended up marrying a fellow animator, Akemi Ota, in 1965. Ota gave birth to Goro in 1967 and two years later, in 1969, she gave birth to Keisuke. Hayao Miyazaki joined Toei Animation in 1963 as an in-between artist (Someone who draws the frames between keyframes to make the images flow smoothly). This is where he meets his future wife, Akemi Ota. Miyazaki worked his way up in the ranks of the studio and ended up being in the key animation department and the writing department. Here Miyazaki worked on the animated film Taiyo no Oji Horusu no Daiboken (The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun) with his partner and friend, Isao Takahata. This was Takahata’s directorial debut and was a landmark in anime history because of its socialist themes and its ingenious animation techniques. In the end, Miyazaki and Takahata left Toei Animation and joined A Pro. Here the two co-directed several episodes of the animated television show Rupan Sansei (Lupin III). They also worked on Panda!
