This plan would require a full day without classes, decreasing the years class time and potentially forcing teachers to fall behind in certain classes, leading to rushed attempts to cover missed material. It is true that every school day is intrinsically valuable, both to students and teachers; however the experiences suggested for Hawk Helpers day are equally precious. One study has found a correlation between volunteering in high school and voting later in life. Another has shown that students who volunteer are more likely to have good grades. This data, alongside common sense, shows that volunteering has a massive benefit on the future life and personality of students. In addition, students who have been required to volunteer by their school still experience the same benefits, and often go on the volunteer again. The purpose of school is to prepare students for their future life; although we often focus on knowledge and schoolwork, creating opportunities for personal growth is a part of education as well. This event also provides an opportunity for students that are falling behind. During the second half of the day students could have a chance to retake or finish tests and quizzes without missing class.
