During the twentieth century, author William Golding produced one of the most groundbreaking novels of the era, “Lord of the Flies,” confronting the psychological aftermath of World War Two. Published in 1954, in the midst of crisis among the nation, Golding sets “Lord of the Flies” in the backdrop of an atomic war, in which a group of young boys deserted on an island, due to a plane crash, fear an imaginative creature they call “the beast.” Symbolizing fear, war and savagery of human nature, the children dread they are unable to escape the hauntings of the beast, initially appearing only in their nightmares, but now, externalized into a never-ending terror, ineluctable by the boys, no matter their age. Primarily, only the youngest of residents on the island believe the actuality of the beast, while the more mature children simply believe the little ones are speaking of demons exclusively in their nightmares.…

All animals hunt for survival, yet humans have developed a beastly way to make a game of it. In this sport, hunters thrive on the misfortune or weakness of others, while prey often forfeit the opportunity to avenge their attackers before it is too late. In rare occasions, the hunted will revolt and strike back, leaving the hunter astonished. This is best illustrated in Richard Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game,” when animal hunter Rainsford takes an unexpected journey to the house of General Zaroff, a hunter of an unusual prey, and is lured into playing a very deadly game of man versus man -- or man versus “beast.” Rainsford originally reveals no sympathy for his bounty of beasts, but upon becoming prey himself, Rainsford begins to transform…

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved the movie, Space Jam. The movie introduced me to Bill Murray (starring as Bill), to Danny DeVito (who played the evil theme park proprietor - Swackhammer), and of course to the the infamous Michael Jordan. I was so engorged in this sci-fi kids movie that I related almost everything to Michael Jordan and Space Jam. In school, I’d only buy Gatorade products, I’d constantly worry about what Bugs Bunny would think if I failed a test, or if switching from tennis to lacrosse was as detrimental to my career as Jordan making the 180 flip from basketball to baseball.…
