All my life I have known myself for having freckles, but I was not born with them. They started to develop when I was five years old. Throughout my life, my experiences with people that have freckles has not been good. They usually do not seem to like their freckles and feel insecure about their appearances. However, based on a research that I have decided to conduct to expand my knowledge about the subject, “freckles are natural” (“What Causes Freckles?”). Sometimes people that I meet on a daily basis tell me that freckles are considered to be my beauty mark. I found that having freckles could bring the possibilities of having skin cancer. Based on a video interview made to Dr. Jablonski—an American anthropologist and palaeobiologist, she said that “freckles are like cancer factories because feel melanin is producing negative chemicals”(“Freckles: Evolutionary Advantage or 'Cancer Factories"). Eventually, making people fearful of getting “the MC1R gene that somehow can play a role in the cancer initiation or growth” (Healy). In other words, when it comes to the person’s health, freckles are not 100 percent healthy. As the research goes, along with the freckles and the red colored hair also comes a propensity to develop melanoma—a particular deadly form of skin cancer (Healy). Not only is this possible, but because freckles are hereditary, which means that they come from generation to generation, if the person comes from a family that has a history of cancer diseases, they might be in danger, in addition to checking their skin constantly, and taking all tests possible to prevent any illness, but generally, freckles are “quite harmless and benign” (Cooper). Additionally, many people can feel a lot of insecurity among themselves, their friends, and the public, “despite the tendency of such people avoiding spending days in the sun” (Healy). It all becomes people’s biggest fear in facing the reality that they have
