I believe the author of this quote is trying to point out that having an educated mind gives one the ability to question one's thoughts. Or he may also be trying to express that having an educated mind gives you the ability to play around with someone's thoughts and opinions without accepting them, because you've already set your mind to what you think is already correct. For example, my friends and I are pretty good when it comes to math and science. We love to argue about things that are going on in the world, such as the recent school shooting to the current presidential election.
