Having A Twin: Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
Wouldn't it be awesome to have a twin, don't you think? They could always help you at sports. First, I think I’d like that because you could have someone to throw or pass the ball to. Secondly, I think it also would help with school. For example, they know what the test is about and how to ask the questions for the test. I also think that you could get things done better and quicker like usually chores would take 15 minutes, but with someone helping it would only take half the time. Lastly, I'd like to have a twin is for fishing because you’d have a lot better chance of catching something than you do by yourself. That's why I think having a twin would be fun, don't you agree?

The article “Could Conjoined Twins Share a Mind?” was written by Susan Dominus for the New York Times on May 25th, 2011. It describes some daily aspects of Krista and Tatiana Hogan’s lives - or rather, life, - as craniopagus conjoined twins, joined at the head. Dominus details how the twins are at once distinct and connected through their actions, reactions, and cognitive functions. Cases of craniopagus are extremely rare, and the twins’ neural anatomy is even rarer. According to the article, twins being joined at the head are “one in 2.5 million, of which only a fraction survive.”…

This essay will discuss the controversial topic of; the nature, nurture debate. It will do so by examining twin and adoption studies. Through compiling results from various studies conducted by researchers and academics, it will demonstrate inconsistencies, which in turn conclude that human mental processes, and behavior cannot be determined by one specific factor. The nature, nurture debate is a widely regarded topic of inquiry, which aims to define the prevalent force behind an individual’s personality, identity and behavior. For humans as a species, it is important to discover to what extent external or learned behavior, and internal or hereditary behavior, affects our mental process, and in turn, our identity (A. Tomlinson, 2010).…

From a health perspective, nutritional support is very important for conjoined twins when it comes to survival, or in terms of treatment. What may happen if this is delayed is that they could catch infections and or feel a pain in the area the operation was done. Parents need to plan how their twins will be taken care of. They need to seek medical attention when anything too serious happens. Before that, they need to at least see their local doctor for any medical advice or assistance about any health related topics; regardless of whether it is sleeping habits or food.…

There is something that makes me stand out from others: my younger twin sister, Sophia, and I are fraternal twins. Although we’re fraternal twins who technically don't look alike, my sister and I share almost identical facial and body features, to the point where people wouldn’t be able to recognize who is who from the back. This is why there is always confusion between our friends about if the person they are greeting is the right twin, (and most of the time it is not). Most people would get angry if someone mistook them for another person. This, however, is not the case for me.…

Separating twins Impedes their ability to succeed in school. Often, twins will have lower grades because they cannot focus in class. Grime found, “Focusing at school is a problem for all students when their emotional needs are not met... If a child cannot be attentive in class, that child will struggle to learn the concepts being presented. This inattentiveness may have been preventable by allowing the twins to share a classroom” (90-91).…
