It was a bright sunny day outside in the afternoon of my sophomore year of high school. I was walking from school and back to my house. I noticed when walking closer and closer to my house, I spotted my cousins husband’s truck sitting outside as both him and my mother were talking. Finally, I stepped foot onto my property with a greeting of my soon to be furry brown friend, Dollie.

A local child had been mauled to death by his family dog, a pit-bull. The attack enraged the community and drove the local government to ban pit-bulls from the city. Several days after the boy’s death, details about the events leading up to the attack quietly emerged on the back pages of local newspapers. The “family dog” actually belonged to someone else; a neighborhood teenager had stolen the male pit-bull a month earlier from its owner’s backyard. There was speculation that the teen may have abused the pit bull in hopes of turning him into a fighting dog.…

Just checking in to see how your dog duties are coming along. I hope Emma is healing and that Diesel hasn’t eaten anyone yet. Our Foster dog almost died, was diagnosed with either/both leukemia and a stomach blockage of some sort, and then made a full recovery. We had a chance to have him put down, but I decided to give him more time and brought him home from the hospital with a prescription for Prednisone, which was expected to extend his life by maybe another 6 weeks. He’s in his third week now and, other than the shaved legs and belly, seems perfectly normal.…

Earlier that day I had just walked home from school and had let my to dogs out to use the restroom. Without consideration I went and just layed on on our worn sofa and laid there for quite a while without the thought of the dogs even going through my mind. I ate a snack which was lightly buttered popcorn that had bold salty flavor. When I came back to confirm that the dogs were still in the boundaries of the yard, I could see the vacant, silent, and lonely backyard with only one dog in my presence.…

I hear the loud, rough sound of the door opening, as I enter my soft, green house. Today at school had simply been horrific. My alarm hadn’t gone off this morning and everyone was in such a glorious mood when I arrived to the all too familiar building (note the sarcasm). Suddenly I hear the all too familiar jingle of the tags on my dog, buddy’s, collar. Setting down my black and white bag with a sigh, I trudge to the back of the house where he is.…

A lot of people don’t understand the power a dog can have on a person’s life. Sometimes your dog can be the little bit of hope you get at the end of a day that looks hopeless and other times it can just make a great day even better. But either way dogs can be a great source of happiness for any person. Since I was almost always lonely at my dad’s this is just what I needed whenever I went up there, a source of happiness, and it came to me one day in the form of a dog named Tarzan.…

Howdy everyone, the names cowboy, and I love meeting new people. In my previous house I enjoyed playing with and being around men, women, and children. Some of the ways I love to burn off some of my access energy, is by running around outside, and by playing with toys such as balls, ropes, and squeaky toys. When you throw a toy, I will go fetch it, but I’m not the best at letting go of it; however with some further training I’m sure I can become great at fetching and releasing. I have only been outside dog of my whole life, and would feel most comfortable in an outside environment.…

What my dog has taught me Humans are basically social animals, and in learning to coexist more peacefully, our pets could teach us a thing or two. Humans are sometimes arrogant enough to believe that our lives matter more than others, but in owning a dog it 's clear to see why it doesn 't. I know some people consider their pets as a part of their families. I strongly agree with that stance towards the dog I have in my home. Having been a dog owner since the age of nine, I can claim that a lot of growing and maturing goes on during that timeframe. Pets have this ability to teach people things that even humans cannot.…

Suddenly, a white and fluffy baby poodle came jumping at the second me, reaching their paw at my precious chocolate. His eyes wide, he lost balance and nearly fell out of the chair. Really, this shouldn’t be so scary, but I’ve been scared of dogs ever since, especially cute ones. Leaping back to the present, I stopped abruptly, before the road that blocked my route home due to the onslaught of cars.
