A teenage girl has a family with 2 siblings and immigrant parents. Her parents finished high school, but didn’t get a college education. She has a younger brother and an older sister who goes to UMKC and is attending her 4th year of pharmacy school. Although, her parents didn’t have the opportunity or the money to get a college education, her sister used the opportunity to bring success in her life. By being the first member of the family to go to college, she has made a big impact on her younger siblings and is leading them towards the same path. Having a college education is extremely necessary for success in life because you’ll make more money, you will gain valuable work skills, and you’ll be more likely to have a job.
By graduating with a college degree, people have a higher chance of making more money. The average income for adult highschool graduates is $31,000 per year. This is less than half of those who have a full four year college education earning an average income of $57,000. People have a broader perspective of different career paths. In addition, people get to meet professors and other students and gain new ideas. People don’t leave college with just a degree, they also leave with important life skills to use later, such as, independence, multi-tasking, motivation, note-taking, cooperation, and resourcefulness. “The world has a surplus of unskilled labor. There are billions of people in the world who lack a college education and who are willing to work. Many are willing to work hard for shockingly little, but do it in order to feed their families. Work that can be performed by unskilled labor abroad puts greater pressure on wage rates in the United States because of globalization”
