Dear Haverford's Office of Admission and Vice President Jess H. Lord,
I am a waitlisted applicant for the class of 2021. I am writing this letter to express my continued and enthusiastic interest in Haverford College. This passion can be seen as I was recently named a valedictorian at my high school. Another facet of Haverford that intrigues me is the abundance of classes that are taught in a seminar style.
Since submitting my application, I have continued to involve myself in extracurricular activities. As President of the Environmental Club, I recently wrote

For this independent project, I created "Coloring Around the World" activity books for young children that centered around diversity and languages. I distributed the books and taught a class at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School's daycare about the importance of diversity. I also ran and performed at the International Dinner at my high school, an event held by the International Club to fund the education of a young girl, Lavanya, in Southern India. These activities showcase my passions for inspiring international cooperation and global perspectives, passions that Haverford College has demonstrated it shares through the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, study abroad programs, and diverse student

After reading Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me I firmly believe there are many positives and negatives that both challenge and support the Dexter Southfield mission of “Our Best Today, Better Tomorrow”. The challenging factors this book offers include whether Dexter Southfield celebrates is diversity enough and if Dexter Southfield students are able to achieve our mission through focusing their time on what interests them. Not simply going through the motions daily; bored and uninterested with the necessary classroom requirements. Nonetheless, Between the World and Me also reinforces how these requirements enable us to reach and exceed our goals and offer us a solid foundation to go out into the world and make a difference as citizens. We are not afraid to take risks and endeavor outside of our comfort zones.…

My journey at Chick-fil-A began the of fall of last year, soon after I turned sixteen. Reading this reminded me of the non-profit I was part of back home in Karachi, Pakistan. The organization was called “The Citizens Foundation” and as a part of the team, I participated in providing food to the underprivileged on Eid, a Muslim traditional holiday. (Lifestyle) As I had previously worked with students back in the slums of Pakistan in helping them with homework as well as reading and writing, I thought volunteering at the SMBGC would give me a different perspective on this about how it would be like to work with students from all diverse backgrounds in one of the most cosmopolitan cities of the world.…

Being a student at one of the most prestigious schools in the United States, you are given amazing classes which teach us various topics which eventually bring us back to our major or main topic of our undergraduate. Being a Mexican student, my knowledge is primarily about the struggles and stories from my own country. Coming to this school and meeting other minorities from other countries and taking classes that teach us about those countries as well, my knowledge about other problems and stories that happen to other students, families, and youth throughout the countries makes us realize that we are all the same and not alone when it comes to tragedies and inequalities like the ones many of us encounter in the US already. Attending "El Pais Que Viene” a Non-Profit Event & Book Launch, allowed me to connect the various topic and stories I learned in my Chicano studies class called “Central Americans” where we discussed the important events and inequalities that are happening throughout these central American countries and looking at stories through literature and media. Living in the Untied States as a minority, we tend to not tell our stories from our countries or even identify ourselves from those countries due to the negative image that the US has towards the people who come from these different countries.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…
