Have You Ever Been Close To Dying

Improved Essays
Have you ever been close to dying? I have. It was June 23, 2015. It was very hot that day in eastern Union county. I had spent the whole day at my grandmothers house cutting, splitting, and stacking wood. As you can imagine I was very tired and ready to be home so that I could crawl into bed and sleep away the stress of the day. I had my learners permit for about a month at the time and my father asked me to drive home, but I could barely lift my arms from all the work we had done that day so he decided he would drive instead. The moment we left my grandmothers I leaned my head against the truck window to hopefully fall asleep on the way home, but for some reason I couldn't seem to fall asleep even though I was extremely tired. Almost as if there was a reason I needed to be awake. The drive from my grandmothers back to my house was roughly an hour and a half and the whole time I was alarmingly alert. My father on the other hand kept complaining about not being able to stay awake and that I might need to drive home after all. I reassured him that I was in no condition to be driving so we continued on. It was roughly …show more content…
I noticed a tractor trailer from far off coming towards us in the oncoming lane. It was a drastically long straight away with very steep hills going up on either side. We are only about five miles from home at this time and we are very deep in the country so there are no street lights and visibility is limited. As the tractor trailer was getting nearer I noticed that he too was all over the road and it made me nervous seeing a very large truck coming my way and it was not very stable. All of a sudden as we’re right on top of each other the tractor trailer runs off the road and smashes into the steep hillside and begins to jackknife across the very thin two lane road…We are approximately traveling at sixty five miles per hour, too fast to be reacting to the situation at

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

It was like I was in the middle of a horror movie. The scene around me was unthinkable: flashing lights, sirens, people yelling, running in different directions like ants scurrying to build underground tunnels. Twisted and burned metal objects once resembling cars and trucks lined the narrow road. Sheet-covered bodies dotted what little pavement was available.…

Melvin Morse, M.D author of “Closer to the Light” gives us a profounder understanding about near-death experience (NDE) by using personal stories from patients and research other doctors have unveiled. Throughout the book, Dr. Morse gives short stories of different patients who have undergone a NDE or something similar to it. He also describes how our society differs from the society hundred years ago in dealing with NDE patients.
