Have Americans lived up to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence? This question has roamed around the minds of people who are living in America today. It challenges us as a nation to rethink our past actions. To think and analyze what America has done and gone through over the years in history. Based on a lot of evidence and primary source documents, we can say that Americans today have definitely lived up to the ideals. First, our rights have greatly expanded since the publish of the Declaration of Independence. As shown in the placard (insert), African-American people were sold and bought as slaves to white men. This event caused many people of color to rise up and fight for their rights in the Civil Rights War in order to abolish slavery. Today, slavery does not exist anymore as it is illegal to own slaves. We as a nation and as people have gathered together, fought for social justice, and ended slavery. We have made this wish come true. …show more content…
