The story follows Mitch albom who is asked by his childhood rabbi to write his eulogy. While the rabbi, referred to though the story by his nickname “reb”, isn't dying, he wants to be prepared for someone he knows will do his eulogy justice. The story then proceeds to follow Mitch’s eight year journey in learning about the Rebs inspiring life and later meeting a man named Henry. Henry is a preacher at a dilapidated church who allows addicts and the homeless come to praise god in their time of need. Henry himself was once a drug dealer and addict himself who knows the effect god can have on one’s life and wants to help others. The book has a great ending, with a tearful eulogy given by Mitch at the Reb’s inevitable funeral. …show more content…
Henry’s sections of the book demonstrate that no matter where you are in your life or what you are doing, god still loves you and is willing to help you turn your life around. The book does an excellent job of telling the rebs life, of how no matter what faith you are, you should always respect and love others. The Reb recalls a story of a traveling salesman who comes to the same house everyday, while the man repeatedly becomes enraged at the salesman for his determination. One day the salesman comes and is spit on by the man who lives in the house, but the salesman wipes the spit away and simply says “it must be raining” with a smile on his face. This passage shows that the reb was always determined to help people, even if they refused his help. The story is incredibly inspiring to the reader and even Mitch, who hugs the Reb after avoiding him for
