Your original post wonderfully displayed your need for what was most important to you. The displacement you experienced from a life you once enjoyed and thrived had to be a very difficult transition. Similar circumstance tend to trigger a need for achievement, which Is the desire to excel, overcome the obstacle, solve problems, and surpass your best self as you stated (Kinicki & Fugate, 2016, p.165). Autonomy is allowable to the extend a job allows an employee the freedom, independence, and discretion to complete a job or tasks efficiently and a timely fashion (Kinicki & Fugate, 2016, p.171). Leaders sometimes don’t know how to stop micromanaging to extend faith and freedom to their subordinates for effective job completion. This leads to diminished motivation, a poor attitude and result in poor work performance. Besides this, it also takes an employee to be goal oriented as goals direct attention and efforts toward goal-relevant activities. (Kinicki & Fugate, 2016, p.166) Edwin Locke and Gary Lathan’s Theory of Goal Setting propose difficult and specific results to better job performance, the right conditions like resources and skills/ability or experience must be in place in order for goal setting to be effective, and performance feedback and participation regarding the details for successful achievement of goals are necessary but does not guarantee they may work. For some, this is the sole purpose for being gainfully employed to receive a paycheck. For others, it is the sense of fulfillment for accomplishing goals into a successful career. It gives me great pleasure to work in a capacity that serves others as it motivates me to be better. In my current capacity, I interact with the residents of the Condo community which consist of mostly seniors.
