Haunted Home Observation Report

As president of my high school's Key Club, it is my job to organize service activities for our members to volunteer in. One of these activities is the local haunted house sponsored by the Front Royal Little League. This fundraiser for the little league started when Mr. Bryan Binnix stepped in to save it from plummeting. Mr. Binnix discovered that the program wasn't making enough profits until his brother, Mr. Bobby Binnix, wanted to make a change, thus they proposed the idea of having an annual haunted house. Since the first year in 2012, the fundraiser has raised approximately $9,500.00. I have volunteered for three of those years by becoming an actor to scare victims. Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

Volunteer’s stood up for hours at a time, cooking and handing out hot food, clothes, water and supplies to the people in my community. Eventually my family and I went to an evacuation shelter where the most influential social responsible acts occurred as there was a whole school filled with volunteers that worked around the clock to help those in need. My family and I were so inspired that we began volunteering as well; even my 10 year old autistic daughter helped out by sorting donated clothes and any other tasks she was capable of doing. My family and I are now planning to take courses that were offered to us by the city that trains us to help out on future potential…
