There are many state and federal laws that prohibit hate crimes. If we take the word “Hate” from in front of crimes it just leaves the word crimes. Which means if someone commits crimes it could be as little as a small fine or a short stay in the local jail. But if you put the word “Hate” back in front of crimes, things get way more serious. Anything found to be driven by hatred is way more serious. The reason hate crimes are more serious over just crimes is because “just crimes” are mostly intended to an individual, but “hate crimes” are against a whole group of people (Punishment for Hate Crimes). The Judiciary Branch of the government is trying to crack down on these types of crimes in an attempt to prevent them from being committed. Because of the Judiciary branch cracking down on just hate crimes there has been a bunch of debates on whether this is legal for them to do (Punishment for Hate Crimes). Such as, currently we have ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is sending death threats, torture, and mutilation to compel people to switch to the Islam Religion. The situation for Muslim- Americans would be even more worse than it was after 9/11/01 if ISIS decided to attack the United States of America like they wanted too (Muslim-Americans). Another example for hate crime in another part of the world dates back to the month of August in 2015. Thousands of Israeli’s have held protests against hate crimes, since a Palestinian baby was burned to death when their families home was fire bombed by suspected Jewish Settlers (Israeli’s Protest). The brother and the parents of the young child were in a hospital being treated with their injuries while all of this was going on outside. The child was only eighteen months old. The home that had been destroyed was found to have the “Star of David” spray painted on it and the words, “revenge,” and “Long live the Messiah.” (Israeli’s Protest). The Ku Klux Klan started back in 1866. Their main goal was to protect white supremacy. They wanted to make it so
