Throughout history, Americans have fought for their rights. Whether it’s women’s suffrage, immigration, or working conditions, people have stood up and fought for what they believe in. Civil Rights is no exception to this. During the civil rights movement, like other times that people stood up, there were those who opposed.Those who opposed during the civil rights movement committed things called hate crimes.
During the civil rights movement, many people disbelieved that blacks should not have freedom. The Ku Klux Klan committed crimes against black people, and civil rights leaders in order to dismay them from accelerating the civil rights process. The Ku Klux Klan, or KKK for short hoped to scare people into submission. One of the crimes the KKK committed the most was murder. One of the most well known murders connected to the KKK was that of civil rights activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner.
